Hostinger DDoS Protection 2026: What's Covered and How It Works

A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack floods your server with massive amounts of traffic from many different sources (often a botnet of compromised computers), overwhelming server resources and making your website inaccessible to legitimate visitors.

DDoS attacks range from small nuisance attacks (a few Gbps) to massive assaults (hundreds or thousands of Gbps) that challenge even enterprise infrastructure. Most website owners face small-to-medium scale attacks that standard hosting protection can handle, but larger-scale attacks require specialized mitigation.

Hostinger includes network-level DDoS mitigation on all hosting plans. This protection handles common Layer 3 (network) and Layer 4 (transport) attacks — the most common types targeting web hosting servers. Hostinger's data centers use traffic scrubbing hardware that identifies and filters malicious traffic before it reaches your server.

The built-in protection handles the vast majority of attacks targeting typical websites and small businesses. However, Hostinger doesn't publish specific Gbps mitigation thresholds, so for high-risk sites (those likely to face large, targeted attacks), additional protection is recommended.

Cloudflare's free plan provides significant DDoS protection enhancement beyond Hostinger's built-in mitigation. By routing traffic through Cloudflare's network (which absorbs attacks at the edge), your Hostinger server's IP is hidden and attack traffic never reaches it.

Cloudflare's free plan handles Layer 3/4 attacks and basic Layer 7 (application) attacks. Cloudflare Pro ($20/month) and Business ($200/month) plans add advanced Layer 7 protection, custom WAF rules, and dedicated DDoS response for large-scale attacks.

For most websites, Hostinger's built-in protection + Cloudflare free is more than sufficient.

Beyond DDoS protection, Hostinger includes a Web Application Firewall (WAF) that protects against application-level threats: SQL injection, XSS (cross-site scripting), and malicious bot traffic. The WAF is active by default on all hosting plans.

Hostinger also provides ModSecurity rules on shared hosting plans — an industry-standard Apache module that blocks common web attack patterns. These work automatically without configuration, though advanced users can customize rules via hPanel.
